About Me
I'm Rafe Caruthers, the potter behind MudMade Studio. I grew up in Valdez, Alaska, and I've always loved playing in the mud.
I started making pottery in high school. Of course I was terrible at first, but something about the concept of creating art through clay just hooked me. Six years later, it still has the same hold on me.
I make functional stoneware: mugs, bowls, and plates, the kind you reach for every morning. I want each piece to be as nice to look at as it is to use. Most of my experimenting happens in altering forms and adding nature-inspired textures, paired with simple glazes that complement both.
I now teach and manage the Provo branch of Throw Pottery Studio, so most of my days are spent at the wheel, either helping students or working on my own pieces.
If one of my pieces ends up in your home, thank you.
